A blocked radiator can cause a lot of damage to your system overall. If there is a blockage and the water flow is reduced, your radiator won’t be able to cool your engine appropriately and it could overheat – which can be a death sentence for your engine if the overheat is severe!

It is important to make sure your radiator is cleaned regularly and in line with the suggested milage in your user manual. We are experienced radiator specialists; this means that there’s almost no type of radiator we haven’t seen!

In short, we can definitely help you so come on down to see us for your radiator cleaning!

Why does my car need a radiator cleaning?

In the course of normal operation your radiator will pick up dust, dirt, lime and mineral scale. Without regular flushing the water and coolant break down and stop protecting the engine from rust and corrosion – ALL of these factors can contribute to a build up which can block the tubes in the radiator that move the fluids – which is not good.

What is involved in a radiator cleaning service?

There are two aspects to a radiator cleaning service – internal and external. The internals of your radiator need to be cleaned to avoid deposits of dirt and minerals building up, and external fins need to be cleaned of dirt and debris to support proper cooling.

We use the best tried and tested methods to make sure that everything gets done right!

Cleaning the external fins, as well as flushing the internal system is important for proper radiator maintenance. Furthermore, this external clean will allow a technician to inspect your radiator for any external damage which may have occurred.

UNDERSTANDING ANTIFREEZE/COOLANT

Antifreeze, also called coolant, is the coloured fluid (often green, red, blue – depending on make and year of vehicle) found in your radiator and cooling system. Antifreeze serves a number of purposes; the top 3 are: lubrication; it lubricates the metal moving parts it comes in contact with, (e.g. the water pump), and also prevents rust and corrosion, it keeps the water from freezing in your radiator when Temperatures drop below 0 degrees and it slows down the degrading of the water itself in your cooling system.

Antifreeze also keeps that same water from boiling over in the summer. Radiators are normally filled with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water.

Your car’s radiator and cooling system needs to be clean to be cool. As time goes on, your car’s radiator builds solid deposits that can clog the cooling system. It’s a good idea to flush your radiator to clear out any gunk and prevent electrolysis due to breakdown of old coolant. A quick, inexpensive radiator flush can keep the system in shape. It’s important to change your antifreeze yearly.
